Elbow Joint Arthritis
Understanding Elbow Arthritis
This condition develops over time as the protective cartilage within the elbow joint thins, which can lead to friction, inflammation, and pain. It may be related to previous injury, overuse, or simply age-related changes.Assessment at The London Ultrasound Clinic
Your appointment includes a hands-on assessment and a detailed ultrasound scan of the elbow joint. This allows us to confirm the diagnosis, assess changes within the joint, and evaluate the surrounding tissues.Conservative Management
Many patients benefit from conservative approaches, which are usually the first step in treatment:- Activity modification and ergonomic advice to reduce strain on the joint
- Gentle strengthening and mobility exercises to maintain range of motion
- Pain relief or anti-inflammatory medication where appropriate
- Education and reassurance about the condition and what to expect during recovery
Ultrasound-Guided Injection
If symptoms persist despite conservative care, an ultrasound-guided injection using steroid and local anaesthetic can help reduce inflammation, ease pain, and support improved joint movement. Steroid injections are only offered when clinically appropriate after reviewing all management options.
Rehabilitation and Recovery
After any intervention, a structured rehabilitation programme is important. This includes exercises to maintain function, support joint health, and prevent flare-ups. Most patients notice gradual improvement in pain, mobility, and daily function over several weeks, allowing a comfortable return to normal activities.
Our goal is to provide clear guidance, effective treatment, and a supportive experience, helping you regain elbow comfort, restore movement, and carry out everyday tasks with confidence.
